Welcome

My name is Desiree Meyette, I’m a current student at San Diego State University majoring in hospitality with an emphasis in meetings and events. I have 5+ years of event experience throughout many levels of production. From janitorial to operations management, I’ve worked to learn all I can about events. Attending SDSU’s Payne School of Hospitality has been vital to my growth in not only event management, but also my leadership development.

Throughout my coursework, I have learned a great deal about the type of leader I am and the type of leader I want to become. In every opportunity I’m presented, I work to be compassionate, supportive, open, honest, knowledgeable and resourceful. I strive to provide team members with what they need, individually, to ensure they are able to maximize their own growth while also hitting the organization’s goals. When a team member seems to be going through a rough patch, I want them to know that they can talk to me. I will do what I can to support them and I will be honest about what I can do, as well as what I cannot. Additionally, I believe in the importance of transparency in running an organization. When the entire team understands the why behind a goal, we can bring our individual experience together to see how to best achieve those goals.

The small-scale events are actually what brought me to the decision to return to school to learn about event management.
